Nativity Trail 2010
Birmingham Museum & Art Galley from 1 December 2010 - 6 January 2011
The traditional story of Christmas as depicted by artists over 500
years. It includes the following masterpieces depicting the Christmas
story:
- Peace and Goodwill (1922) stained glass windows shows the Angels
appearing to the shepherds by Henry Payne
- The Star of Bethlehem (1887-1891), by Edward Burne-Jones
- The Annunciation (1858), by Arthur Hughes
- The Nativity (1858), by Arthur Hughes
- The Adoration of the Shepherds (c1520-40), by Bonifazio
de’Pitati, called Veronese
- Triptych (1510-1512) by Adriaen Isenbrandt.
- The Angels appearing to the Sheperds (1640-60 by Giovanni Benetto
Castiglione
- The Rest on the Flight into Egypt, (1615-20), by Orazio
Gentileschi.
Also there was a superb display of photographs documenting the
visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Birmingham on Sunday 19 September 2010
for the beatification of Blessed John Henry Newman at Cofton Park. Also
on show is the specially reupholstered chair used by Pope Benedict
during his visit to St Mary’s College Oscott, the diocesan seminary.
